Gary Wockner, PhD, is a scientist and conservationist based in Colorado. {PARAGRAPH}{INSERTKEYS}We know that fossil fuel corporations are causing climate change, and causing the damage, and thus we contend that fossil fuel corporations should pay for the damage, not the public taxpayer. Thus, the taxpayer would be taxed to pay for climate damage to our water supply, the state would use the money to build new dams and diversions, and the State would give that water to fossil fuel corporations which would make climate damage even worse. Forcing the taxpayer to pay for climate damage is an egregious violation of climate justice. Lawsuits are ongoing in the State of Colorado, in the US, and around the world against fossil fuel corporations, arguing that these corporations should be required to pay for the damage caused by climate change to local, state, federal, and world economies. The basic questions are: Who caused the damage?
